The First & Only True "Baseball" Car - Yankee Stadium Vendor Wins 2000 Volkswagen Baseball Beetle (1/1 Produced)
The first and only true "Baseball Car" is a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle that was THE ONLY ONE custom made by Cracker Jack to present to their top baseball vendor in a special 2000 Opening Day promotion. It was won by Robert McKay, a Yankee Stadium Cracker Jack vendor through an intense competition featuring 10 carefully selected "special" Cracker Jack vendors from major league ballparks around the country. With Reggie Jackson as their host/spokesmen, each competed in events such as the "Cracker Jack Toss," "Snack Carry" running the bases with a tray of soda and Cracker Jack, best Cracker Jack Call (loud and unique) and the finest rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in the "Cracker Jack Anthem Sing-a-Long" (hysterical!). This is the first one we have ever seen for sale and it is a beauty. The custom-designed VW Baseball Beetle features a white exterior with red baseball stitches. Miraculously, it appears to be in the shape of a baseball, and the interior features figural seats looking exactly like Rawlings baseball gloves. It even features a figural baseball gear shift and baseball bat emergency brake. We recently discovered that the car's special sound system was designed to play "Take Me Out To The Ball Game," the song that made Cracker Jack forever linked to our national game. We are not sure if this is still the case. This became Robert McKay's main vehicle that he drove every day. Heck, he was a kid who sold Cracker Jack at Yankee Stadium for a living, so what did you expect? It's in mint condition and we have spent $7,000 to have it perfectly and expertly restored by a top firm to its brand-new, original, class A-1 condition. It boasts a new motor, brakes and paint among other things. It is amazing, road ready, and can be driven like any other car with title stating 67,000+ odometer miles. Imagine driving this around the neighborhood, going to games or a baseball card show, or putting it on display indoors or out. 100% Cooperstown worthy.
