The Largest Lou Gehrig Signed Photograph We Have Ever Seen (14.5x20”)
Absolutely stunning signed photograph of the Iron Horse is one of the finest signed pieces we have ever offered. Special image from their commercial studio reads "The New York Times Studio" in silver on the 14.5x20" matte. It is written in the logo of the New York Times newspaper. Photo itself is 13x10" and is one of the most important photos of Gehrig ever taken. Standing handsome and smiling he holds his bat with the park's protective screen a spider web background belying his true fate. Signed around 1940 based on the signature variant it reads in black fountain pen ink, "To Fanny and Ed - May I always prove worthy of your friendship - Sincerely Lou Gehrig." The consummate gentleman writes in the voice of a scholar with penmanship to match (Columbia University schooled). There is some slight bleeding to the "G" in Gehrig and a couple of the other letters. The photo is a trifle light which may be the image itself. The rag-edged matte has some soiling and creasing but is still in every good condition. Overall simply magnificent and any minor conditional defects are easily outpaced by the aesthetic beauty, rarity and heart attack quality of this piece.
