Three David Wells Game-Worn Jerseys
The man nicknamed "Boomer" really knew how to fill out a uniform. Here are three the left-handed pitcher wore during his 21-year big-league career. First off is a 1989 Toronto Blue Jays road jersey that features "TORONTO" and the original team logo stitched on the front, "36 89 2" chain-stitched on the inner collar below a Wilson 46 tag. "WELLS 36" adorns the reverse. The White Sox home pinstripe jersey comes from Wells' only year in Chicago - 2001. The classic "SOX" and 33 are stitched on front, "WELLS 33 on the back" and patches on both sleeves: "100 season American League charter member" on the right and Comiskey Park logo on the left. Majestic Size 56 tagging on the outer tail along with "33 56 01" stitched in. The following season - 1992 - Wells returned to Canada and wore this home uniform with blue piping, "BLUE JAYS" and short-lived logo stitched on the front, "WELLS 10" on the reverse and maple leaf Blue Jay logo o the left sleeve. There's a Majestic Size 50 tag on the tail. All three button-downs show use. Wells' greatest individual performance was his perfect game with the Yankees on May 17, 1998 vs. the Twins in New York.
