Tommy Loughran Fight-Worn Signed and Inscribed Boxing Gloves
This lot includes a shadow box containing the boxing gloves used by Light Heavyweight Champion Tommy Loughran on September 23, 1926 in his fight against Jimmy Delaney (the undercard of the Jack Dempsey/Gene Tunney fight). Presented by Loughran to a young fan named Tommy Leary after the fight, the gloves have been professionally mounted for display in the shadow box, along with original newspaper accounts of the fight, an original photo of Loughran giving the gloves to Leary, and the related newspaper article about Loughran and Leary. The left glove is inscribed, "To Tommy Leary, Used in my bout with Jimmy Delaney, from Tommy Loughran" on the inner cuff. The right glove is inscribed "Dempsey - Tunney 9/23/26" on the inner cuff. The shadow box measures 21 1/2 x 23 1/2 x 3 1/2". These extremely rare gloves have an impeccable provenance and have never before been offered at auction.
