Tony Gwynn Original Life Cast Resin Hands

Tony Gwynn Original Life Cast Resin Hands

Hitter’s Hands is the creation of Denver artist Raelee Frazier, and the late baseball veteran, Charlie Metro, who met the legends of baseball to mold their hands around the bat, resulting in these life cast hands. In the finished product, Frazier uses bronze to immortalize her subjects, with the hands displayed gripping a bat mounted on a wooden home plate base. The entire process, however, is quite fascinating. The lifelike hands are guided through a hot wax procedure, followed by a plaster mold before being cast in bronze using the lost wax process. The bronze hands are then incorporated into the final three-dimensional display, and each set is mounted on the base. The selection offered here consists of the original resin cast hands that were used to create the molds for the final step. Due to the nature of the process, the detail in these pieces is stunning, with skin texture and even hair clearly discernible on some. Sixteen all-time greats are represented in this impressive collection, including 13 Hall of Fame baseball players. Frazier’s work has been prominently displayed at the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Smithsonian. You gotta “hand” it to her!
