Unique Late 1940s Jackie Robinson "Bullet" Pencil

Unique Late 1940s Jackie Robinson "Bullet" Pencil

Presented is a unique, late 1940s Jackie Robinson "bullet" pencil, an item whose case was made out of bullet shells. When Robinson broke the Major League "Color Line" in 1947, he was a nearly immediate star, as he won the National League Rookie of the Year Award, led the league in stolen bases (29), snd sacrifice hits (28), and batted .297 as his stellar play helped Brooklyn win the pennant. Robinson had many souvenirs that honored his newfound stardom, but this "bullet" pencil is one of the most unusual. The pencil comes in two pieces. The larger part of the pencil case is 3.25" long, and the smaller part, the pencil itself, is 2.75" long, including its metal holder. The small pencil and its holder fit into the larger part, which contains an eraser on its end, and together the two pieces measure approx. 4.2". Depicted on the case is a small black and white photo of Robinson and wording above the photo says, BROOKLYN DODGERS, and below the photo is printed "Jackie Robinson." The wooden pencil still works. The offering exhibits some slight fading on the area of the Robinson photo and the associated writing on the case, but overall, the souvenir pencil and pencil case remain in very good condition.
