USS Maine Candy Dish

USS Maine Candy Dish

Our research indicates that this appears to be an antique glass novelty candy dish, which is in the shape of a steamer ship featuring the slogan "Remember The Maine." This glass dish with cover is cast in the shape of the ship with the relief inscription on both sides. The bottom is decoratively cast in a large starburst pattern. It measures seven inches long, three inches high and two inches wide. Absolutely perfect condition! These were made to stir American patriotism during the Spanish American War. The U.S.S. Maine was sunk in Havana Harbor on February 15, 1898, killing over 250 sailors. The detail is just phenomenal from the smokestacks to the portholes.
