Very Early Christy Mathewson Delivering His "Fadeaway" Photograph (PSA Type I)
One of the earliest Christy Mathewson photos we have ever handled, this Type I masterpiece is from the first few years of his Hall of Fame career. Circa 1902-04, the 3.5x4" snap shows the budding legend in follow-through of his famed "Fadeaway" - better known today as the screwball. Crease at the bottom left corner and small crease at middle of top edge, verso has a nice pencil description noting, "showing position of fingers after delivering his puzzling drop ball or fadeaway." Back also has stamps from Brown Brothers, as this historic offering is from their extensive photo archive. To this day, Matty's 373 career wins is tied for the all-time NL lead with Grover Cleveland Alexander, third in the Majors. Encapsulated PSA Type I Authentic.
