Very Rare 1926 Pottsville Maroons Real Photo Postcards (15)
The Pottsville Maroons joined the NFL in 1925 but a controversial suspension cost them the championship. Four years later, the club moved to Boston, ending an intriguing story in American sports history. These are the first postcards we have handled, and have only ever encountered a few others. All but two have the Zacko's Sportsman's Store stamp on the backs, and they come from the 1926 season. The names are written on the backs in pencil, and 15 of the 20 men on the roster are accounted for here: Herb Stein, Heinie Benkert, Jesse Brown, Jim Welsh, Zeke Wissinger, Duke Osborn, Frank Racis, Tony Latone, Frank Bucher, Jack Ernst, Hoot Flanagan, Heinie Jawish, Bob Milman, Frank Youngfleish and Barney Wentz. Conditions vary but overall they are Good to Very Good with a few lesser. All are unposted. The Maroons went 10-2-2 in 1926.
