Very Rare 1973 Muhammad Ali vs. Ken Norton II On-Site Boxing Poster
Displayed is a very rare, 1973 Muhammad Ali vs. Ken Norton II on-site boxing poster for the Sept. 10, 1973, battle for the North American Heavyweight Championship at the Forum, in Los Angeles, California. The poster reads, "ALI'S REVENGE!! Muhammad Ali vs. Ken Norton." Both fighters came into the fight with only one loss. Ali had been stripped of his World Heavyweight title after he refused to be drafted in 1967 and was convicted of draft evasion. After Ali's conviction was overturned, he resumed boxing and attempted to reclaim his title, but he lost to Joe Frazier in 1971 in a fight that could have given Ali back his championship. In trying to regain his Heavyweight title, Ali fought Ken Norton twice in 1973. In their first meeting, on March 31, 1973, Norton broke Ali's jaw and defeated Ali 2-1 in a split decision at the Sports Arena, in San Diego, California. Ali and Norton fought next on Sept. 10, 1973, at the Forum, in Los Angeles. This fight was again for the North American Heavyweight title. before 12,000 spectators, Ali won a 12-round fight on a split decision. The fight came down to the last round, and Ali, in great shape because of his disciplined training at his boxing compound in Deer Lake, Pennsylvania, attacked Norton with several flurries of punches and won a very close decision. After the fight, Ali praised Norton as the best fighter he had ever faced, second only to Joe Frazier. In the next year, Ali won back his World Heavyweight title with a victory over George Foreman in "The Rumble in the Jungle." Ten, Ali and Norton met for the last time on Sept. 28, 1976, in New York City's Yankee Stadium, in Ali's eighth title defense, and The Greatest won an unanimous decision. The poster measures 21.75x27.25", matted and framed at 23x26". Only a few of these posters still exist. The poster has a few tiny stains, but remains in excellent condition. There is slight water damage on the back of the frame, but this does not affect the poster. We have not taken the poster out of the frame, but based on weight, the poster was probably mounted on board. This stunning piece is one the rarer Ali posters.
