Vintage Basketball Photograph Archive (180+)
Large collection of 204 basketball photos picturing both professional and amateur players. With few exceptions, all are black-and-white images. The majority are news photos (including wire photos) dating from the 1950s through 1990s, many of which include either attached captions and/or handwritten captions on the reverse. Approximately 40% of the photos capture professional athletes (mainly NBA players), including 24 team-issued publicity images. Among the NBA players featured in the collection are Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Bill Cartwright, Jerry Lucas, Slick Watts, Stacy King, Lester Connor, World B. Free, and Otis Birdsong. The remainder of the photos picture college and amateur players, with the University of Minnesota heavily represented. A few of the photos have a "Sporting News" label on the reverse. Sizes range from approximately 5x7" to 8.25x11.5", averaging 8x10". Condition ranges from FR to EX-MT, averaging VG.
