Vintage Cassius Clay Signed Inscribed Photograph - "Liston in 6" (PSA)

Vintage Cassius Clay Signed Inscribed Photograph - "Liston in 6" (PSA)

Original Cassius Clay signed photo dating just prior to his historic first title bout against Sonny Liston on February 25, 1964. Clay is pictured taking a break from his training at the gym to shake hands and pose for a picture with a fan. Inscribed in the upper right quadrant "To Kirk from Cassius Clay - Next Champ - Liston in 6." Both the text and signature have been scripted in blue ink and grade 8/10 overall. Clay, who soon after the fight changed his name to Muhammad Ali, was prophetic in his prediction for the bout as Liston failed to answer the bell for the seventh round, thereby giving Clay the win. This photo is a true "1 of 1" because it is not a press photo, but a personal photo. The gentleman shaking hands with Clay here is our consignor's uncle Kirk. Vintage Cassius Clay signed photos, especially those specifically referencing the first Liston fight, have always been highly prized by collectors. This example is even more appealing because it has been in the family's sole possession since 1964 and is therefore new to the hobby. The photo (9.5x6.5") displays moderate creasing, including a heavy diagonal crease in the lower left corner, as well as minor adhesive residue on the reverse from having once been mounted in a photo album. Full LOA from PSA.
