Vintage Lou Gehrig Memorabilia Collection w/Rarities (6)
Diverse collection of vintage Lou Gehrig memorabilia, including a few seldom-seen pieces, all of which are ideal for display.1) March 31, 1932, issue of Hardware Age, featuring Lou Gehrig on the cover in an advertisement for Louisville Slugger baseball bats. The sixty-six page magazine (9x11.75") is in Very Good condition, with a few small abrasions to the front cover.2-3) Pair of 1930s Lou Gehrig "Knot Hole League" Items. One is a "Knot Hole League" membership card issued to a "Thomas Sillar" (4.25x2.75"; FR) and the other a "Knot Hole League" felt patch (3" diameter; EX-MT)4) 1937 Chicago Daily News Advertising Scorecard. The front features portrait images of Lou Gehrig of the New York Yankees and Luke Appling of the Chicago White Sox, along with advertising for the Daily News. The reverse features a scorecard for the game that day between the White Sox and Yankees, with both Gehrig and DiMaggio listed in the lineup for the Yankees. Although the piece is not dated, an examination of the listed rosters for each club pinpoints the year to 1937. 11.25x6.5". VG, with a large diagonal crease and other lesser creases.5) 1942 Ed Barrow Original News Photo. The photo pictures Barrow in the Yankees offices admiring a large bronze bust of Lou Gehrig. A "Wide World Photos, Inc." credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with two 1942 date stamps and editorial notations. 9x7". VG, with a few light-to-moderate creases and light editorial markings on the front.6) Circa 1942 Lou Gehrig Memorial Fund Stationery. The blank piece of stationery features the fund's name and a list of the committee members on the front, and a large photo of Gehrig on the reverse. 8.5x11". EX-MT.7) 1945 original mixed media artwork on paper featuring a tribute to Lou Gehrig. The "Iron Horse" is featured in eight different poses, with many of his career achievements listed. The artist's name, "Don Rall," and the year, "1945," are written along the front base. This piece was most likely produced for use in a newspaper or perhaps for a newspaper supplement. The artwork (22.25x26.5") displays a heavy vertical and horizontal crease, as well as numerous border tears, nearly all of which have been repaired/reinforced on the reverse with vintage white tape. Light toning and/or staining affects the perimeter areas. Fair condition overall.
