Walt Whitman "New England Poets" Handwritten Quotation
A fascinating handwritten excerpt from Walt Whitman, the Great Grey Poet. On a piece of notepaper (8x4”), completely in the hand of Walt Whitman is a small paragraph, intended to be part of an editorial column. In black fountain ink, it reads, “<u>Walt Whitman on the Poets</u> - The marked part of W. Whitman’s Boston notes on another page in his opinion of the leading New England poets - about which opinion the late Scribner article and other criticisms have evidently sailed far out of their reckoning.” Added note for the editor at top of page (also in Whitman’s hand) reads, “if convenient - put in small [paragraph] at rear of editorial column.” Ink grades overall “7” out of a possible 10. A rare handwritten note from the legendary American poet in Excellent condition. Paper is slightly toned. From an early and important autograph dealer. Original frame still intact with early photo of Whitman framed with this early hobby matting. Display is framed to 14x16”.
