Willie Mays Loses His Lid in 1954 World Series by Sam Goldstein Type 1

Willie Mays Loses His Lid in 1954 World Series by Sam Goldstein Type 1

Willie Mays, sans cap, goes first to third on a single by Bobby Thomson in the third inning of the opening game of the 1954 World Series against the Cleveland Indians, as Cleveland third baseman Al Rosen takes the throw. Willie used to purposely wear a small cap size, and cut his hat along the rear hatband so that the cap would fly off when he ran. This consummate showman was always exciting enough even with his hat on, but in "The Catch", his legendary over-the-head game-saving grab in the 8th. inning of this game, the cap flew off once again as he wheeled to make a great throw.

Size: E.S.
