Willie Mays Playing Basketball Vintage Photograph
Vintage photograph capturing baseball Hall of Fame outfielder Willie Mays on the hardwood while stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia, during military service in 1954. The photo pictures Mays as he lets go a shot on the basketball court. The photo is accompanied by its original United Press paper news caption, dated "2/7/54," on the reverse. According to the text, Mays is scheduled to be released from the service in time to join the Giants for the start of spring training. Also on the reverse are editorial notations and a small newspaper clipping featuring a portion of the offered image that is dated stamped "Jul 25 1954." The photo (5.25x9") displays editorial outlining to Mays' image and light rippling. While this is clearly a vintage photograph from the period, it has not been evaluated by PSA, therefore no guarantees are made regarding a specific Type designation.
