Willie Wood's 1989 Hall of Fame Ring
Offered is amazing “Wee Willie” Wood’s 10 karat gold ring by LGG presented to him at the time of his Pro-Football Hall of Fame induction in 1989 - a genuine one-of-a-kind original. Wee Willie truly carved his own place in history, establishing himself as an unstoppable force as quarterback for the USC Trojans in the late 1950’s. He was among the first black QB’s ever to play in the conference, during a time when not many blacks were playing college football. He certainly would have been considered an anomaly by today’s standards, playing during a time when they played both ways (offense & defense). But his exceptional quality was his rare and elusive running skill - he was one of the most versatile and mobile quarterbacks ever. After college, he fought his way onto the Green Bay Packers squad as a defensive back (many recruiters believed he was too small to play QB as a pro). Hard work and determination was the key to his illustrious NFL career, a 5-time All-Pro and 8 time Pro Bowler. Large ring adorned with square blue stone on top with the words, “Pro Football Hall of Fame” surrounding in raised lettering. Right shank is “Wood, elected 1989” with 3 football players in action. Left shank is the word “Safety” with a miniature model of the HOF below. Size 11. Excellent condition. LOA.
