Wookie Masks From the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special

Wookie Masks From the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special

These two authentic Wookie Masks were actually worn during the legendary broadcast of the November 17, 1978 "Stars Wars Holiday Special" on CBS, which was meant to cash in on the theatrical release of "Star Wars: A New Hope." Considered one of the most controversial television specials of all-time (rumor has it that George Lucas so hated the show that he has tried to have all copies of it destroyed) it featured the tribal Wookie family of Chewbacca - co-pilot and friend of Han Solo - his wife Mala, son Lumpy and father Itchy. About 20 or so actors portrayed Wookie extras and these two handcrafted masks were among those which adorned them. Created by Stan Winston Studios, these masks feature authentic "Wookie" fur, and sculpted nose and mouth. Incredible relics from one of the most intriguing chapters in Star Wars history.
