Yankee Stadium Flag at Half Mast for Babe Ruth in 1948 Photograph (PSA Type I)

Yankee Stadium Flag at Half Mast for Babe Ruth in 1948 Photograph (PSA Type I)

Original Type I photo capturing the flag in centerfield at Yankee Stadium lowered to half-mast on August 17, 1948, for Babe Ruth, who died the day before. One can also see the two monuments in center field for Lou Gehrig and Miller Huggins, as well as the plaque on the wall for longtime owner Jacob Ruppert. Ruth’s body lied in state at Yankee Stadium on August 17th and August 18th so fans could pay their final respects before his burial. Two Brown Brothers credit stamps appear on the reverse, along with remnants of the original paper news caption and the handwritten notation “Flag at half-mast for Babe Ruth Aug 17, 1948.” The photo (7x9”) displays light creasing and is in Very Good condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
