Complete collection of pieces relating to Outcault from one of the best ephemera collections in the country. Strong gathering (45) of turn of the century Richard F. Outcault cards, postcards, adverts, a letterhead, and a page from a theatre bill for his “Original Cartoon Comedy - Buster Brown.” Most items are centered on Outcault’s most famous characters - the Yellow Kid and Buster Brown. A rich and representational collection from a late 19th Century phenomenon, from which, oddly enough, <i>yellow journalism</i> and crass commercialism rose. But at its heart always was Outcault’s smart and uniquely drawn cast of characters. Overall EX-MT.
