"Yellow Kid" Artist Richard Outcault Studio Portrait Adorned with Buster Brown Drawings

"Yellow Kid" Artist Richard Outcault Studio Portrait Adorned with Buster Brown Drawings

A gorgeous studio portrait, this is signed by the esteemed George Moffett of Chicago. On the matte are two incredible pencil cartoons of Buster Brown and Tige. This was his second creation after the first-ever newspaper cartoon, The Yellow Kid. Circa 1902, Buster is drawn as an inoffensive angel with halo. A knowing Tige is winking with the balloon "Well we are all a awful good boy." Based on the temperament this was undoubtedly sent to a young child with the highly dark artist's pencil salutation "R. F. Outcault To My Friend Walter Swanson." Signature and inscription are massive, there's some slight warping and water spots, but nothing near the drawings and inscription. Some foxing to the photo with a few minor defects, but overall VG. 15.5 x 23.5"
