10/5/27 Lou Gehrig Signed Pittsburgh University Handbook - Signed the Day of World Series Game One (PSA)

Lou Gehrig was known as The Iron Horse for his remarkable combination of playing ability and the ability to withstand injury and illness in order to play 2,130 consecutive games, the Major League record for consecutive games played until broken by Cal Ripken Jr. on September 6, 1995. Offered is a Lou Gehrig single signed Pittsburgh University student handbook, with the signature dated on the day of Game 1 of the 1927 World Series, held in Pittsburgh. The 1927 New York Yankees featured a lineup known as "Murderers' Row", and this team, often regarded as the best baseball team of all time, was in first place or tied for first place throughout the entire '27 season, and the Yanks finished at 110-44, nineteen games ahead of the second place Philadelphia Athletics. Gehrig had an outstanding day on the day he signed this student handbook. He went 1-2, with a walk, a triple to drive in Babe Ruth in the opening inning, a walk, and a sacrifice fly to give the Yankees the fifth run, the eventual winning run, in the Yanks Series opener. The Yankees went on to sweep the Pirates in four games for the World Championship. The black student handbook measures 2.75" x 4.6". Gehrig's signature is on the first page of the handbook. Using a fountain pen, Gehrig signed in neat, flowing script and Gehrig inscribed "10-5-27". The fact that the Gehrig signature was written in a Pittsburgh University student handbook and signed on the date of the opener of the World Series that year in Pittsburgh, ties it all together. Great player, great Murderers' Row team, great signature. PSA LOA.
