1869 Peck & Snyder Cincinnati Red Stockings CDV
This 1869 Peck & Snyder Cincinnati Red Stockings card is widely considered to be the first true baseball card ever made. Issued as an advertising trade piece for Peck & Snyder, a sporting goods company based in New York, the card's top and bottom borders have been trimmed. Additionally, the top and bottom corners on the left side have been clipped. Still, this iconic card remains in very good condition, with only one significant half-inch crease near the middle of the card on its left side, and a photographic image that rates VG-EX. The team pictured on the card, referred to in red print on the card as the "RED STOCKING B. B. CLUB OF CINCINNATI" are considered to comprise the first professional baseball team ever assembled. The ten players pictured are each listed on the front of the card: "HURLEY, SUB.; G. WRIGHT, S.S.; ALLISON, C.; McVEY, R.F.; LEONARD, L.F.; SWEASY, 2d B.; WATERMAN, 3d B.; H. WRIGHT, C.F.; BRAINARD, P.; GOULD, 1st B." This truly historic card is the larger of the two versions of the famous piece, featuring a red border (some have a black one). The back of the card, also printed in red ink, features an advertisement for Peck & Snider's athletic supply company. The card has been encapsulated as authentic by PSA.
