1880 Providence Supplement

This is a very historic early newspaper supplement from of Providence, Rhode Island, "The Providence Sunday Dispatch." The Providence Grays were a local major league team that played in the National League from 1878 until 1885. This supplement includes images of ten players and the manager, and includes one of the celebrated pioneer players, JM (John Montgomery Ward), who was a pitcher, shortstop and manager, and who led the formation of the first professional sports players union and a and a new baseball league. Mounted on board, and has condition issues, measures 13.5x20". Missing corners and has significant wear around perimeter.
