1889 World Series Brooklyn Bridegrooms Championship Dinner Program
In 1889, the Brooklyn Bridegrooms held off the St. Louis Browns to capture the American Association title by two games. While they would lose that year's World Series to the New York Giants - the first post-season meeting between what would become historic rivals - there was still a championship to celebrate in Brooklyn. This item is a program from the banquet held to honor that team on October 24, 1889, at the Academy of Music. It measures 6x7" with a card stock cover and the pages bound together by red string at the top. Included is a list of toast presenters as well as dinner choices (filet mignon, squabs or quails, anyone?). This item came from the estate of one of the 1889 players who lived in Peoria IL, and while it does show some major fading, it is in remarkably good condition for an item well in excess of 100 years old. The original team photo came with it but was sold years ago.
