1890 John Heisman Cabinet Photograph

1890 John Heisman Cabinet Photograph

This is one of the earliest photos known to exist of college football coaching legend John Heisman. This is what the Cleveland native looked like while playing football for the University of Pennsylvania in 1890-91 and is one of only a few photos that have survived from his playing days. A Gilbert Studios logo is on the reverse, along with handwritten pencil notes including "fresh at Penn 1890." The Gilbert Studios stamp also adorns the bottom on the front. There is one small pin hole at the bottom, otherwise VG-EX. Heisman is the namesake for the annual award bestowed upon the top amateur football player in America.
