1895 Milwaukee Brewers Team Schedule Broadside

1895 Milwaukee Brewers Team Schedule Broadside

Rare 1895 Milwaukee Base Ball Club large-format team schedule display. This is the first example of this attractive team display we have ever offered and the only other one we know of originated directly from the estate of Larry Twitchell, who was the team's manager and captain. The display features portrait images of fifteen team members in the center, all of whom are identified in print above their respective image, including six players who played in the Major Leagues at one time: Larry Twitchell, Kirtley Baker, Jim Long, George Rettger, Ben Stephens, and Farmer Weaver. The schedule for the club's home games is listed in two boxes along the base. Produced by the Riverside Printing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as noted along the bottom border. The Milwaukee Brewers were a member of the Western League in 1895. Five years later, in 1900, the Western League changed its name to the American League. In 1901 the league declared itself a Major League, at which time the Milwaukee franchise was moved to St. Louis, where they became the St. Louis Browns (currently the Baltimore Orioles). The cardboard display (14.25x22") has been professionally cleaned and has benefited from professional restoration to several border tears. A few light creases are still evident, as are a few light stains, none of which detract from its overall Excellent appearance.
