1905 Carlisle Indians Program
Rare Carlisle Indians football program from Oct. 21, 1905 provides a quaint portrait of the school and team before Jim Thorpe made it a national power. He was enrolled at Carlisle at the time but wasn't "discovered" by coach Pop Warner until 1907 when Warner saw him jump 6 feet in street clothing. Cover of the 6.5 x 10" program reads "Dickinson vs. Carlisle Indians" with this and the venue -- Island Park in Harrisburg, PA -- in red lettering, surrounding an illustration of a fresh-faced bunch of Carlisle gridders. Inside pages are rife with local ads and photos of football players and other school jocks. Program G-VG w/ moderate crease damage, soiling and page yellowing but spine is tight and the images sharp.
