1910s-20s Philadelphia Athletics By George Grantham Bain (10)

1910s-20s Philadelphia Athletics By George Grantham Bain (10)

The Philadelphia Athletics were in reality several different franchises. The Shibe family got involved when the idea of a rival league to the National League took form. They enlisted the great Connie Mack to run the operation and he did an amazing job, guiding them to 5 World Series championships and 4 other pennant winners. The team had only three managers in 54 years. Connie Mack (1901-1950), Jimmy Dykes (1951-53) and Eddie Joost (1954) were the only official managers. Earle Mack filled in for his father Connie Mack due to illness in the late 1930’s. Superb collection of images from the George Grantham Bain collection of the Philadelphia Athletics. Most of the photos are 5 X 4” and overall they are EX but the imagery is picture perfect. Photos are of Lep Long (2), Salmon, Ben Egan, Houck (2), Livingston, Barry, Gipe and Fritz.
