Pete Gray Memphis Chicks Photos (2)

In 1944, Gray earned national recognition by batting .333 for Memphis, hitting 5HR, & tying the league record 68 stolen bases - a truly amazing feat for a man who lost his good arm in a childhood truck accident. Driven and determined by his love for the game, Gray trained himself to throw and bat one-handed from the opposite side and he made plays from the outfield by tucking his glove under his stump, rolling the ball across his chest to his left hand and throwing in one motion! He is pictured in these photos to the far left. The quality of film in first photo allows you to see clear to the back of the stands. Second photo shows great contrast as well. EX-MT. Both came from one of his teammates.
