1911 Adie Joss Day Panorama

1911 Adie Joss Day Panorama

One of the finest baseball panoramic photos collectors will ever have the chance to get their hands on. Pictured are all participants in the 1911 Adie Joss Benefit Game at Cleveland's League Park. This event was in honor of Adie Joss, a crowd favorite who pitched a one-hit shutout in his Major League debut and quickly became one of baseball's greats. Joss' career was tragically ended (April, 1911) due to a premature death caused by meningitis. The proceeds from this, the most noteworthy benefit game in the history of baseball, went to his wife and family. This event is considered one of baseball's first All-Star games. A photo was given to each of the participating players after the event on July 24, and only a few of these photos are still known to exist. All the fabulous stars of the generation participated to pay their respects. Look for baseball's all-time greats in this photograph: Cy Young, Joe Jackson, Napoleon Lajoie, Eddie Collins, Joe Wood, Ty Cobb and many more of your favorites. Note that Ty Cobb is in a Cleveland uniform in this photo - he forgot his Detroit uniform that day! This piece is simply amazing in quality and condition. Contrast is exceptional. Condition is NRMT except for one 1/2" crease along the edge (hardly worth mentioning but included for accuracy), and two small half-dollar size discolorations.
