1912-27 Zeenut Collection - two with Tabs and SGC Graded (45)
Produced over a 28-year span by the Collins-McCarthy Company, Zeenuts were issued from 1911-1938, with all player subjects from the Pacific Coast League. A hotbed for baseball during the early part of the 20th Century, the PCL was a harbinger for talented local players, hotshot youngsters and former Major Leaguers on the downside. Images were either black and white or sepia toned, with mostly borderless sets, minimally informational with player name, team and year. Zeenuts are very scarce, were issued with "coupons" (beginning in 1913) which could be removed for various premiums via trade, and when Zeenuts are located, they are mostly without their coupons and in lower grade. Cards with the coupons still attached are extremely rare and command significant premiums. All these offered cards grade in the Poor to Good range, with some which would third-party "grade" as AUTHENTIC. This lot of 45 Zeenut cards range from 1919 through 1927, arguably the most important baseball time of the 150 or so years in existence. Two cards from 1930 have their coupons still attached and have been graded by SGC. Various future Major Leaguers are scattered throughout. Pillette with Coupon (SGC 45 VG+ 3.5). Ungraded Cards - 1919: 16 cards w/Beck, Bigbes, Bohne, Coleman, Corhan, Eldred, Fitzgerald, Flannigan, McGaffigan, Mitchell, Murray, Prough, Ritchie, Schick, Scott (S.F.) and Willets. 1920: 12 cards w/Arlett, Baldwin, Bromley, Cullop, Gardner, James (Salt Lake), McQuaid, Rheinhart, Schorr, Stroud, Wares and Yelle. 1921: 2 cards w/McAuley and Nickels. 1923: 4 cards w/Cooper (Writing), Crandall, Doyle and Walsh. 1926: 2 cards w/Hickok and Meeker (both VGish). 1927: 2 cards w/Hemingway and O'Brien.
