1912 Sinking of the Titanic Marconi Radiogram

1912 Sinking of the Titanic Marconi Radiogram

The drama of the Titanic's sinking, crackles in the few terse sentences of this Marconi marine radiogram. "Captain Chief 1st and Sixth Officers and all engineers gone. Also Doctor all Pursers one Marconi operator and Chief Steward. We have Second Third Fourth and Fifth Officers. One Marconi Operator on Board." This remarkable piece of history was sent from the deck of the doomed ship, to Captain Herbert James Haddock of the HMS Olympic. The Olympic was the Titanic's sister ship that was also at sea not far from the Titanic when it sank. Captain Haddock then signaled another ship, the Carpathia, also mentioned on the radiogram, and the latter's quick arrival helped prevent even greater loss of life. Measures 5.5x8.5" and condition is EX, with a few small tears along the bottom edge and serrating at the top from being ripped off the transmission machine.
