1916 Sporting Life Magazine "Isn't that Babe Ruth?" Cover

1916 Sporting Life Magazine "Isn't that Babe Ruth?" Cover

Hubert Leonard? Isn't that Babe Ruth? Recently found issue of "Sporting Life" magazine Vol 67. No. 1 from March 4, 1916 is far more interesting than it appears at first glance. The highlight of this remarkable magazine is the early image of Babe Ruth pitching as a member of the mighty Boston Red Sox. Ruth has just released the ball and upon closer inspection, the magazine identifies him as "Pitcher Hubert Leonard of the Boston A. L. Club." At the time, Leonard was an outstanding pitcher for Boston and had just recently won game 3 of the 1915 World Series. Perhaps when the photographer saw this young, athletic and powerful pitcher (Ruth), he just assumed that this had to be the more well know Leonard. Although it was a mistake at the time, we're glad they chose the photo they did, how can you beat Ruth? The magazine is complete and features many other articles that interest collectors including one on Hans Wagner. Although the cover is no longer attached, the image is not disturbed and could be professionally conserved making this a superb piece of Babe Ruth memorabilia.

Size: js
