1920s Babe Ruth Coin Operated Mutoscope Machine
Ultra rare coin-operated machine shows you the films of Babe Ruth being trained by Artie McGovern the famous boxer and referee who also trained Jack Dempsey. Deposit your nickel, look into the viewer and turn the brass crank and see Ruth in training for 1926 season. With a disappointing 1925 season and his 5-year $52,000 contract expiring, Ruth knew he had to perform in 1926 and perform he did (372 average, 47 homers and a pennant). Card at the top is an original one that has been restored to compliment the machine but looks absolutely perfect. The photo even matches (though not vintage) showing Ruth and McGovern in the gym. Viewer works perfectly and is itself a work of art with cast metal florets and brass front plaque reading, “Manufactured by International Mutoscope Reel Company New York.” Paint has been perfectly restored to its original scheme and is in overall excellent condition. Stands 73” tall including the original metal stand and header frame.
