1920s Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Dual-Signed Baseball (PSA)
Sometimes a baseball, which only weighs from 5.00 to 5.25 ounces, can carry a ton of power, and the offered dual-signed Ruth and Gehrig baseball is clearly one of those power-packed spheroids. Signed in the late 1920s when Ruth and Gehrig were both in their peak years, the baseball carrying the signatures of these two New York Yankees icons will inspire fascinated interest in any collection. Is there a baseball fan in the world who wouldn't want to own a Ruth/Gehrig dual-signed baseball? Think about the amazing Ruth. As a Boston Red Sox pitcher, he won an American League ERA title and once held the record for pitching consecutive shutout innings in the World Series at 29.2. So, that's pitching power. In fact, the lefty throwing Ruth, with a great curve ball, would have been an ideal pitcher to stop the lefty swinging Gehrig, but the Yankees cornered the market and had them both. In the late 1920s, from 1926-29, Ruth led the American League in home runs every year. Ruth's lifetime total of 714 home runs was once a sacrosanct record. The Bambino still holds the all-time Major League records for lifetime slugging percentage (.690) and career OPS (1.161). The other half of the Yankees' Hall of Fame sluggers, Lou Gehrig, didn't hit his full stride until the 1927 season, and his production from 1927 through '29 was enormous. In those three seasons, Gehrig averaged 36.3 home runs and 148.3 RBIs. A lifetime .340 batting average and a career 1.000 OPS are just more indicators of the prowess of "The Iron Horse." The amazing Gehrig earned that nickname by playing every game for over 16 seasons, 2,130 in all, holding that record for 56 years, a mark only broken by Cal Ripken Jr. The baseball is an "Official Victor League" baseball with a Vulcore center. Ruth signed in ink on the sweet spot, and Gehrig also signed in ink, on a side panel. Gehrig added an inscription, also in ink, "To Gersh." The ball shows toning and darkening, and a few tiny spots where the skin has peeled off. The Ruth signature exhibits fading but is still legible. The Gehrig signature and inscription also show fading, but to a lesser extent than the Ruth signature. The ball comes with a PSA/DNA Letter of Authenticity for the two signatures and the inscription.
