The Bain News Service, a New York-based photo agency started in 1898, produced some of the most striking sports images of the early twentieth century. This particular piece is a 5 x 7 full-body shot of Babe Ruth at first base, glove in hand. The contrast of the image is excellent, with a glossy finish and only very slight fading. Some glue is stuck to the back over the official Bain News Service stamp, a result of having been part of a scrap book collection. These Bain photographs are rare, and increasingly growing more so over the last few years, making this image a valuable addition to any collection.
