1923 John Donaldson Negro League Barnstorming Poster
Extremely rare and wonderful 1923 Negro League barnstorming poster featuring the great John Donaldson of the Arlington, Virginia, baseball team. Donaldson is thought by some to be the greatest pitcher of his era. His career spanned 30 years playing for such distinguished teams as the Kansas City Monarchs, Brooklyn Royal Giants, Chicago American Giants. He amassed over 400 wins over the course of his impressive career. Misspelled as Donalson on the poster, "the famous colored pitcher" was a ringer for the Arlington baseball team for this integrated September 2, 1923, contest based on the perpetual calendar and graphics. During this time, Donaldson pitched for the Kansas City Monarchs, the All Nations team, and stand in ringer for this game. The piece measures 24x19" framed and is in overall very good condition with a small piece of tape residue on the bottom left corner and general creasing and slight tears throughout. A beautiful display piece from the Negro Leagues.
