1924 AL & NL Albums Produced by Tomas Gutierrez Cigar Company of Cuba
This superior vintage major league baseball album was produced as a premium by the Tomas Gutierrez Cigar Company of Cuba in 1924, and includes both the American League (Liga Americana) and National League (Liga Nacional) teams. Printed in Spanish in Havana, Cuba, each of the teams has two facing 8.5” x 12” pages displaying a total of (28) 1.5” x 2.25” black and white player portraits together with their names and position (printed in English). Teams, in order from the start of the album are: Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Athletics, Washington Senators, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, New York Yankees, St. Louis Browns, Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Brooklyn Dodgers, New York Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Braves and Chicago Cubs. Many Hall of Famers are depicted, including Babe Ruth, Connie Mack, Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb, and George Sisler. There are severe water stains on the lower fly corners of the first 20 pages. Many of the other pages exhibit some water stains and dirt stains with worn edges, some minor creases and fold marks. The second page (the first Red Sox page) was severely water damaged with some of the images and copy worn off. The pages have been loosely bound in 9” x 12” black cloth covered boards held together with a black cord. The album has been restored with new covers by a conservator. The original boards, which have been severely water damaged, are included. The overall condition of the album is GD to VG.
