1924 Babe Ruth "Gum on Cap" Type I Photograph by Charles Conlon

1924 Babe Ruth "Gum on Cap" Type I Photograph by Charles Conlon

One of the most endearing features - besides his obvious talent - of the great Babe Ruth was the impish joy of life that he so often displayed. In this iconic 1924 Type I photograph, the Bambino is part of the age-old baseball hijinks of having a teammate place a wad of gum on his cap, captured by legendary lensman Charles Conlon. This was used for the 1986 Conlon Series 1 #48 trading card and 1981 Sporting News Conlon Collection. Back has stamp from Underwood & Underwood, sepia tone, and measures 6.5x8.5" with light creasing, minor paper loss and pinholes on corners. There's writing on the back, detailing Ruth's career, added at a later date. Sources from NY sports editor assistant.
