1927 Rogers Hornsby Picking His Bat From The Baseball Magazine Archive
Rogers Hornsby joined the 1927 NY Giants as player-manager, and produced a 33-22 record during his term. “Rajah’s” contribution extended of course to the playing field, where his 205 hits, 26 home runs and .362 season average helped take the Giants to a close 3-way race for the pennant, finally won by Pittsburgh. The Hall of Fame infielder was highly productive throughout his career; over 23 incredible seasons, Hornsby accumulated 2930 hits, including 301 home runs, while achieving a .358 lifetime batting average. This 8 ?” x 6 ?” photo shows Hornsby studying the bat selection during spring training.
