1929 Mickey Cochrane Philadelphia Athletics World Championship Ring
One of the great pieces of baseball championship jewelry. One of the most dominant teams in Major league history, with five regulars batting over .300 and the stingiest pitcher in the game. The 1929 Philadelphia A's supplanted the juggernaut Yankees as World Series champions, compiling a phenomenal 104-46 record and coasting to the American League pennant by 19 lengths. One of the integral pieces of that club - and one of several future Hall of Famers - was catcher Mickey Cochrane, who batted .331 with 95 RBI (not too shabby for a catcher), and this championship ring that first slipped on his finger 85 years ago could be in your collection. Cochrane cherished this timeless piece of jewelry, wearing it throughout the rest of his life. It sports a diamond on the face with the Athletics' elephant on one side and a globe with the word "CHAMPIONS" on the other. "29" appears below the diamond, "Gordon Cochrane" is engraved inside, with the "Coc" having been partially obscured because the ring was sized. That being said, very few rings from players on the team would be worth more. The Size 8.5 ring has wear but the detail is still all visible. Its maker's mark inside appears to be John Wanamaker with 18K stamping. This is certainly the best ever offered from the team - a highly important ring.
