1928 Ty Cobb Signed Postcard To Mickey Cochrane
Here's something you don't come across every day - a postcard sent from one Hall of Fame ballplayer to another. This one's written by the iconic Ty Cobb to his Philadelphia A's teammate Mickey Cochrane, congratulating him on winning the 1928 MVP. The postcard from Victoria, British Columbia is in VG condition and filled out entirely in Cobb's hand: "'Congratulations. I told you so and you deserved it. Off tomorrow for Japan + China. See you in January. I be home for Xmas. Mrs. Cobb, Hershel, Beverley + Jimmy with me. Ty Cobb." The writing and signature are graded 7/10 in ink. Cobb - who had already served as a player-manager his last five years in Detroit - played his final two professional seasons with the A's before calling it a career just before he put this card in the mail. Upon returning from his travels, Cobb returned to his Georgia farm and amassing a fortune through shrewd business deals, including buying early stock in Coca-Cola.
