1930 Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Dual-Signed Album Page (PSA)

1930 Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig Dual-Signed Album Page (PSA)

Album page signed by Babe Ruth in black fountain pen (grading 7/10), and by Lou Gehrig in blue fountain pen (grading 6/10). The date "October 18, 1930," written in an unknown hand, appears along the right border. While most album pages of this nature provide little information regarding the circumstances of when and where it was signed, the inclusion of the date on this example (presumably by the original owner) reveals exactly where Ruth and Gehrig were when they took the time to honor this autograph request. In a celebration that is still talked about to this day, Ruth and Gehrig traveled to the fishing village of Lindenhurst, New York, to take part in an exhibition baseball game against the town's local nine. The question of why Lindenhurst, was directly related to Addie Klein, manager of the town's baseball team. In addition to coaching the team, Klein was also a fishing buddy of Ruth's, who often came to Lindenhurst to try his angling luck. Ruth persuaded Gehrig to join him on this occasion and the pair were treated like royalty. The town gave Ruth and Gehrig a parade through the center of town in the morning and more than 4,000 local residents turned out for the game, which was reported by the local paper to be "the greatest athletic event in Lindenhurst history." Ruth didn't let the crown down that day, hitting a tape-measure home run in the final inning to win the game for his club. The page, which has been laminated, displays a few creases and is in Very Good condition overall. Full LOA from PSA.
