1930 "La Tropical" Inaugural Game Panorama - NY Giants "Bancroft's" v Pittsburgh Pirates "Ens'
The only one of its kind known to exist. This Cuban exhibition was one of the first All Star Games ever, pitting Pittsburgh Pirates manager Jewel Ens' team versus future HOFer Dave Bancroft and many of the finest New York Giants. Ens' team boasted: Paul Waner, Rabbit Maranville, Pie Traynor, Heine Manush, Larry French, Al Lopez and more. The Bancrofts: Bill Terry, Glenn Wright, Sam Rice, Chuck Klein, Carl Hubbell and more. Best of all, this was the Inaugural Game at the freshly built La Tropical Stadium in Havana, Cuba. The brainchild of baseball benefactor Julio Blanco Herrera, it was designed to be an appropriate venue for the big league gringos to play in Havana. Along with the seven games they played against each other were two games (splitting them) against the Cuban All Stars. Overall some folds and wear, which is common for Cuban paper, but good contrast. Panoramas of Cuban descent are nearly impossible to find and the two in this auction are the only ones we have ever offered.
