1930s Baseball Kimono Fabric - The Nippon Collection
1930s kimono fabric from the Nippon Baseball Kimono Collection, an important archive of baseball and other sports-themed kimonos recently discovered in Japan and exported to the United States. Compiled over many decades, they are the finest we have seen. Beautiful kimono fabric, in classically muted colors of light blue, green, and tan. Features images of cute, somewhat cartoon-like baseball players. The players are pitching, batting, catching behind the plate, and sliding. Some have a blue uniform and a "W " on their caps, signifying Waseda University, and others have a white uniform and a partial "K" on their caps, signifying Keio University, the biggest baseball rival of Waseda. College baseball is huge in Japan, and Waseda and Keio Universities have been in a heated rivalry since 1903. Measures approximately 23 feet by 15 inches. Great condition. Ready to be displayed or made into a beautiful kimono.
