1930's Baseball "Scoreboard" Kimono - The Nippon Collection
From the Nippon Baseball Kimono Collection, an important archive of baseball and other sports-themed kimonos recently discovered in Japan and exported to the United States. Compiled over many decades, they are the finest we have seen. Base Ruth was photographed in a kimono in American baseball's famous 1934 tour of Japan. Was Ruth's kimono as fine as this? Nice muted colors featuring navy blue, tan, and green. Beautiful images are repeated numerous times on the kimono: A scoreboard, a victory trophy, a doubles tennis match, a baseball batter following through, a baseball glove and bat. Huge size. man's. A few small holes which do not substantially detract from overall appearance.
