1930s Harris Woolens Football & Baseball Store Display Clothing Boxes (2)

1930s Harris Woolens Football & Baseball Store Display Clothing Boxes (2)

Two sensational 1930s commercial display boxes, each opens to display clothing in a high-end department store. The first is a sturdy green display with three dividers, that folds up to a box, or out to serve as a large, ornate counter display. The green box has a baseball scene and the brown display is similar but the motif is football. The artwork is extremely well done, reminiscent of the clothier books with the magnificent sports graphics of the period. Many of the greatest sports artwork of the depression era was advertising illustrations, as the most celebrated artists became illustrators to make a living. Each has a baseball/football scene with extremely well-dressed spectators decked out in "Harris Woolens." Both boxes are made of heavy cardboard, so heavy it resembles particle board and each box measures approximately 27" in length, 10.5" deep and 5.5" wide. Each has advertising, with information on the origins of the wool. The green baseball box was glued shut at one point and then pried open. The outside of the boxes display a bit of wear but inside, and as a display, both are EX to EX-MT condition.
