1934 Babe Ruth at Fenway Glass Plate Negative

1934 Babe Ruth at Fenway Glass Plate Negative

One of the last images extant of Babe Ruth in the park he cursed for all of eternity. 1934 photo shows Babe Ruth in New York Yankees road uniform posing in the visitor’s dugout at Fenway with teammates Red Rolfe and Don Heffner. A momentous image in the home of the storied and historical, archrival Boston Red Sox. These glass plate negatives were the first mass-produced, ready-to-use film, used primarily from 1880-1920, with a few exceptions using it through the 1970’s. The key is, the glass plate negative provided the very best detail and contrast, and is also quite resistant to changes in temperature or humidity. This photographic fossil is the blue print to one of the great images produced from baseball’s Golden Age. Measures 4x5” with some minor chips to one edge (this does not affect the actual image itself). Otherwise NRMT. Comes with a printed photo made from the original.
