1934 K.C Monarchs Team Photo

1934 K.C Monarchs Team Photo

The Kansas City Monarchs were the longest running franchise in the Negro Leagues, beginning as charter members in 1920. The team won a dozen league championships and were widely regarded as the Negro League version of the New York Yankees. This wonderful 1934 team photo includes such baseball greats as Turkey Stearns, Wilbur “Bullet” Rogan and Newt Allen. Jackie Robinson, Ernie Banks, Elston Howard and Satchel Paige were among the many Monarchs who later found an overdue place in the Major Leagues. This 7” X 9” black & white (sepia) photo has date and title in the foreground, and some player names are penciled in on reverse. Some surface loss at extreme left does not affect the stunning image.
